Anna the Historian
Book 1 in the Day in the Life Series
Written and illustrated by Annina Luck
Ages 6 and up
It is May 11, 1090, and seven year old imperial princess Anna Komnene has a special day ahead of her: Founders Day which commemorates the founding of Constantinople as a Christian city and capital of the Eastern Roman Empire in 330.
She takes the reader through her day which includes praying at St. Sophia, studying with her tutor, getting dressed in imperial robes and leading a procession to the Hippodrome. A short epilogue explains her place in history, and a glossary and map enhance the text. The illustrations reflect the art of that time.
When not illustrating and telling tales from history, Annina is the Illustrator Coordinator for the recently formed Long Island Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She also participates in writer and illustrator critique groups and lives in Huntington with her husband, Daniel Wildermuth, and their two cats, Tom and Tux.
